“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt-

Last week I talked about Joe Vitale and how he changed his life and went from homeless to wealthy.

You may try to convince yourself that people like Joe can do it but you are not that “lucky”. You may be worried about all the “what ifs” and either hoping or dreading the future and feeling stressed, anxious and burdened, never having a feeling of peace and contentment.

Now if I were to send you a CD of all these anxious, nervous, stressful, negative thoughts, would you like to put it in your car and listen to it over and over again as you drive back and forth to activities or work? I think you would agree that you’d want your money back and feel that you were robbed. You would think that it was some kind of cruel joke that you don’t appreciate, and would not find it one bit helpful.

But isn’t that what you are doing to yourself by listening to all this internal chatter day after day? Maybe you are spitting out those nasty, negative thoughts or words to your spouse or kids or friends. Negative words damage their self-esteem, tear down your own self-esteem, and perpetuate all the negative things that you’ve experienced or are now experiencing.

Maybe because you listen to such chatter you stopped yourself from going after what you really want. Maybe you think of yourself as a loser or you play the pity party and do the “poor me”. It is so easy to get sucked into such negative thoughts. That is why I stress that you need to do your daily affirmations, every day, without fail. And you need to make them good, positive, uplifting affirmations. What you say when you talk to yourself will make the biggest difference in your life.

We not only affect our life, but also those around us with our attitude, body language and countenance, whether we are aware of it or not. The books you read, the people you associate with and the places you attend all influence your thinking, so make it all positive.

Maybe you are living your life for the acceptance and opinion of others, rather than being true to your own divine nature. Needing the acceptance of others and living by their opinions brings undue stress and pressure to the body and can cause health, emotional and weight issues.

The world needs you to be your true self and you deserve to live the life you were designed for.

Tell yourself that you are fabulous, magnificent, beautiful, healthy, adorable and fantastic – because you really are – you are a miracle. Whether you believe in miracles or not, you are one. So make it good when you talk to yourself. Let your imagination soar. No matter what has happened to you in the past, that is not who you are. Your experiences can help you, so you can help others to see their uniqueness and worth. All that you are, all that you can become, all that you know contributes to the world. Tell yourself who you really are, be your beautiful and authentic self, and go out there and “sing your song”.

“What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.” –Henry Van Dyke-

“As you begin to take action toward the fulfillment of your goals and dreams, you must realize that not every action will be perfect. Not every action will produce the desired result. Not every action will work. Making mistakes, getting it almost right, and experimenting to see what happens are all part of the process of eventually getting it right.”-Jack Canfield-

In previous Newsletters and Insights, I’ve mentioned over and over again about being your authentic self and singing the song you came to sing.

We all want to sing that song that is within us, but the question is, how can I do that? And what is my song that I’m supposed to sing?

Joe Vitale, author and mentor, said in a recent talk that when we peel back that thin layer of fear and realize what is holding us back, we will discover our passion. “When we take action we will discover our joy and we will prosper. The Universe rewards people who take action.”

So what are the fears that are stopping you from feeling your joy and your passion? What is hold you back from “singing your song” and fulfilling your destiny?

First of all you need to see if you are living in the past, with regrets and fear. Or are you fearful of the future, or hoping for the future and just wishing that things will be better? Now it’s not a bad thing to hope for the future but if you are spending more time “hoping” instead of “doing” then you are stuck. As Joe Vitale pointed out, we need to “take action”.

I once again encourage you to always talk to yourself in a positive way. If you combine positive self-talk with constructive imagery you will go from where you are right now to where you want to be. You will discover the song you came to sing.

Joe Vitale also said that most of the time we all receive thoughts into our mind of things we could do to improve our life but then we dismiss them as not doable. Or worse, we tell our self we aren’t capable, or question how we could ever accomplish something that amazing. We let our fears and self-doubts stop us from moving forward.

I love Joe Vitale’s story because he talks about coming from a very poor family that was not educated, and neither was he. He left home when he was 16 years old and was homeless for many years and struggled to find what he wanted to do. He said he wanted more than anything to become an author. He wrote his first book but didn’t sell many copies. He was depressed, melancholy, and suicidal, which makes sense since he was totally on his own. He spent most of his days in a Houston library, where he read a lot of books. He decided that some of the authors that he admired had some good thoughts but their lives were in shambles. So he started to read positive thinking books by successful, happy people. When he changed his thinking, his life began to change. He went from being homeless to being one of the wealthiest and happiest men in the country today. He went from wanting to be an author to being an author, with two more books coming out soon. He also has found a new passion, which is music, and he is producing his third CD.

This is such an inspiring story to me, because if Joe can go from being homeless to being one of the happiest and wealthiest men in the country, then we can do it too.

When we read uplifting books and materials and when we talk to ourselves in a positive way then our life will change profoundly. When you change your script you do change your life.

So go after your dreams and sing the song that you are here to sing.

“So often times it happens, we live our life in chains and we never know we had the key.” –The Eagles-

My husband was given a book as a gift that I ended up reading. At first I didn’t find it very interesting and actually was disagreeing with the writer. I even did a few “yeah but…” After many chapters later and after I got more information from the book I realized what the author was saying with all his facts and figures. The bottom line is that everything that happens to us is actually a “result” of something else. The author was talking about success principles and how in the end, if we want to succeed we are the ones responsible for our future. We have to stick to it and not give up because nothing happens over night. What you get out of life will be in direct proportion to your effort.

Another author I was reading this week, T, Harv Eker, states it a little different but with the same principle:

We live in a World of cause and effect.

Money is a result

Wealth is a result

Health is a result

Illness is a result

Your weight is a result

Only when we become aware of what we are thinking, feeling and doing, can we change the outcome and actually get the results we are seeking. Too often we end up sabotaging ourselves, and repelling what we really want in life, because we are not aware. These are hard facts that most of us know but don’t want to hear. The truth is, until we are willing to change, nothing changes.

If you feel like you are trying really hard and it is not working, then you need to stop and analyze your thoughts and actions. Then find a mentor to help you with success principles i.e. setting worthy goals, attitude, power of the mind, etc.

If you are ill, have poor health, or your weight is not where you want it to be or where your doctor tells you it should be, you may need to find a different doctor that can help you in your quest for a better life.

There are health imbalances in the body that can make it difficult to shed weight. If you have an imbalance, a doctor can help assess what the challenge is and how to correct it. It could be a hormone challenge or the thyroid gland which may not be working as it should. Whatever is tripping you up, make sure it is not you. Avoid eating the wrong foods and stay away from sugar loaded foods and soft drinks. It may take some time, but it is never too late to have perfect health.

In any area of life, it is important to make the promise that today you will take care of yourself. Starting today, surround yourself with people who believe in you, people who will support you in your quest for a better and more prosperous life. In all areas of your life, material, spiritual, health and happiness, promise yourself that you will start today. No more procrastinating. This is your life, so live it!

“A great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.” –Walter Gagehot-

Since spring is a re-birth, a new beginning, it is time for all of us to remember how amazing, wonderful and powerful we are, and to live our life to the fullest.

I am reminded of a lady that lived up in the canyons and close to her home was a hill. Every spring that hill would become a blanket of kaleidoscope colors with tulips blooming all down the hillside. It was such a phenomenal site that she wanted to share it with her mom who lived many miles away. She asked her mom to come visit her so she could see the flowers. Her mom didn’t particularly want to drive up the canyon so she put it off. Finally the daughter insisted that her mom come before the flowers would be gone for the season.

Her mom reluctantly drove up the canyon, and kept running into fog and mist which was really nerve racking to her. She finally made it to her daughter’s home and suggested that they just visit. The daughter said, “No, mom, you need to see the flowers”. So back into the car she got and drove further up the canyon. They finally got to their destination and parked the car. They took a little trail and came around a bend in the path and to the mothers astonishment the hill was brimming in every color of the rainbow. “Who did this?” inquired the mom. A plaque by the trail told the story of how one lady, over many years, had managed to plant a bunch of tulips until it was at the point of awe and made a big difference. The mother commented that she wished that she had done something like that, to which the daughter replied “start today.”

Don’t ever think it is too late to make a difference or to change. I read another story of a lady who wanted to be a fire fighter, but everyone discouraged her by telling her that she wouldn’t be able to do it. She was rather petite and her friends just didn’t think it was a good fit for her. Finally she decided she was going to do it and started to do weight training and getting herself in the best physical shape she could be in. She took the firefighter’s course and passed. Her coworkers didn’t think she would be able to actually save anyone if there was a real fire. So, they put her to the test. They took the biggest, heaviest guy in the squad and had him lay on the floor and she was to pull him out of the building. She was able to do it, proving to herself and everyone else that she was capable. When I read this story, I was amazed, because she became a firefighter at the age of 63.

It doesn’t really matter how old you are or how young you are, for that matter, what is important is that you listen to your inner core and follow your heart. Don’t let age, fear, procrastination or any other adjective you can come up with stop you from reaching your potential.

It is time to “awaken” from our slumber and go after the things in life that are important to us. It’s time to enjoy and embrace who we are and love and appreciate those special people in our life that make life enjoyable and worth living for.

“This above all: to thine own self be true. And it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.” – William Shakespeare

Weekly Insight Table Salt & Weight Gain April 16, 2012

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” –D. Seuss-

Maybe your doctor has told you, like mine did, to cut back on salt because it can cause high blood pressure, heart disease and strokes. I got so used to eating foods naturally that whenever I did eat food that was salted, I didn’t like it.

If you watch any of the cooking channels on T.V. or read cook books you probably have noticed that most of the chefs are using gourmet sea salts such as Himalayan Pink Sea Salt or Hawaiian Sea Salt, and touting both the taste and benefits.

So what is the truth about salt?

Salt does have a bad reputation, so avoiding it is good practice if you are using commercially available table salt. Why is table salt so bad? Table salt is produced by mining or evaporation of salt water. After evaporation it is refined to remove impurities. The refining process not only removes 80% of its natural minerals, but chemicals such as potassium iodide, sodium iodide, sodium iodate, and sodium fluoride are added. In addition, anti-caking agents such as sodium ferrocyanide, tricalcium phosphate, calcium or magnesium carbonates, fatty acid salts (acid salts), magnesium oxide, silicon dioxide, calcium silicate, sodium aluminosilicate, MSG, and calcium aluminosilicate are added. These additives and food preservatives can contribute to serious health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes; edema; muscle cramps and spasms; anxiety and depression and even salt addiction.

For most of us wanting to release a few pounds of weight, processed salt impedes the process by causing constipating and water retention in the cells, which leads to inflammation. Aside from iodine, the unnecessary additives in table salt are contributing not only to weight gain but other health challenges as well.

The chefs are right about sea salt; it does taste better and has many health benefits because it contains 80 essential minerals and trace minerals, plus some naturally occurring iodine.

An article by the Real Salt Company says that table salt as we know it today came into existence because the United States military noticed that young men from the Midwest enlisting during World War I were unfit for service because of enlarged thyroid glands. A panel established to determine the cause discovered that the soil in the Midwest had become iodine deficient.

Without iodine we humans tend to develop goiter. Any and all sea salt contains naturally-occurring iodine, but not enough to satisfy the recommended daily allowance of 150 micrograms. But instead of using chemically-processed, unhealthy salt in order to get enough iodine, stick to using natural sea salt and then get naturally occurring iodine from other delicious sources like yogurt, eggs, strawberries, mozzarella cheese, fish, turkey and sea weed.

Let’s talk about the weight issue. Unlike table salt, which can cause fluid retention and constipation, sea salt can help weight loss by acting as a natural digestive aid. Sea salt can also help in balancing blood sugar, which is important to prevent diabetes.

Table salt can raise both blood pressure and cholesterol; sea salt can help lower both when taken with plenty of pure water. It can also help modulate an irregular heartbeat. Sea salt contains magnesium and other minerals that are needed to keep the heart healthy. Magnesium which is a relaxant which helps ease depression, and maintain healthy levels of serotonin and melatonin which help you not only feel good but to sleep peacefully.

So if you’re feeling happy and you’re getting a good night’s sleep, chances are you won’t feel the need to binge on high fat, high salt, and high sugar foods. Magnesium is also needed to give you enough energy to exercise. This is because the mitochondria in your muscles produce a kind of energy called ATP. In order for this energy to work properly it needs to bind to magnesium.

Sea salt also has naturally occurring potassium which is critical in easing muscle cramps and spasms. Sea salt can help reduce asthma by breaking up excess phlegm and reducing inflammation in the lungs.

Whether you choose from Himalayan, Hawaiian, Italian or any of the other natural sea salts available, you’ll be making a wise choice for your health.

Sea salt is also wonderful to use in spa treatments – just fill your tub with warm water, add sea salt and a few drops of essential oil (lavender is very calming) if you like, and soak for at least 15-20 minutes. Your skin will soak up all those good minerals and not only will your skin feel like a baby, you will sleep like a baby too!

In Brian Tracy’s book “The Power of Discipline” he asked himself a question that I think most of us have asked ourselves, “Why are some people more successful than others?” By asking himself that question he said it changed his life.

I recently watched a video a friend sent me of an interview that she was doing with a couple. The story she got from the couple was that on their first date they went to dinner, and afterward he told her that he hoped she enjoyed the meal because it was his last $20.00 that he had. She saw past the poverty and they both saw the potential in each other and they ended up getting married.

Early one morning as he was half awake, half-asleep, he received inspiration for a great business idea and took it to someone that is well known and successful. They ended up going into business together and the couple went from being broke to making over 3 million dollars in under 3 years.

There were times when he was extremely tired and felt he was doing his best to make the business work. His wife reminded him that “good wasn’t good enough” and that he needed to do “whatever it took” to make the business successful.

Kop Kopmeyer, a legend in the field of success and achievement was asked, “Of all the one thousand success principles that you have discovered, which do you think is the most important”. Mr. Kopmeyer answered without any hesitation. “The most important success principle of all was stated by Thomas Huxley many years ago when he said “Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.” Mr. Kopmeyer added that in his experience, without self-discipline none of the success principles work.

So what do we need to know about being self-disciplined? I think some of the things that trip us up are these:

Procrastination. Just get the hard stuff done first, and the rest of the day goes much smoother and is a lot more fun. The more we put it off, the more it seems undoable and much more powerful, scary and bigger than it really is.

Perfection: We can trip ourselves up by second guessing everything we do and always looking for perfection. You don’t want things half done or shoddy, but sometimes we want to tweak everything to make it perfect and end up procrastinating. It reminds me when I was taking art lessons and my wonderful and talented art instructor told me “don’t try painting a gnat’s eyelash.” Her other comment was “stop fiddling” because I kept trying to make the art work perfect. We can put off moving forward, and risk doing nothing because of our need for perfection.

I read about an overweight lady who kept putting off her life, waiting until she was thinner; “then” she would follow her dream and her passion. She finally realized that she was looking for perfection from her body and not accepting some facts –one, she was never going to look like a Barbie doll, and two, that we are not our body – we are a soul. Dr. Wayne Dyer says “Your soul needs to be free. Move past the need to fit in. If you want to accomplish something, you must first expect it from yourself.”

Time management. This is a big one for most people as there seems to be so many directions that are calling you. If you are the owner of a small company then you know you have many hats to wear. It is easy to get stuck on some of the details and not see the bigger picture for your future. We can waste valuable time with things that aren’t that important and won’t get you to the place you need to be. So, what is stopping you from taking your life and/or business to the next level?

Negative self-talk. One of the worst things we can do is beat ourselves up. We need to be our own best friend and stop playing old tapes from the past. Here are two words of advice: Stop It!

Association with negative people. Mentally protect yourself from people who are not for you. If you live with negative people then you are going to have to do double positive self-talk so you don’t get discouraged.

Being average. Worse than being average is being satisfied with being average and having an attitude that your life is good enough, so you do nothing to enhance or improve yourself. You must not stop learning, progressing and being open to new ideas. I have a friend who tries to learn something new every year. This year it is taking guitar lessons. There is much we can do and learn to enrich our lives in so many ways to make it more interesting and fulfilling.

Fear of failure & fear of success: I’ve put these together because we procrastinate doing things because of our fears. Fear that we won’t succeed and also fear of what friends, family and acquaintances will say if we fail. We are also fearful of what they will say if we succeed. We may lose “friends” or hear negative remarks so we hang back and play small. We may be afraid that if our business gets too big we won’t be able to handle the attention and the extra work. What a problem to have! When fears arise, we need to stop and ask ourselves,”is that really true?” and, “what is the worst thing that could happen and what is the best thing that could happen?” Focus on the positive and then do what you need to do.

Celebrate your accomplishments. When we cannot see our own progress we get discouraged. Stop and reflect on how far you have come and what you have accomplished. Give yourself a reward or extra accolades for all the things that you were able to do. When you can appreciate where you are now, compared to where you were it gives you the confidence, dedication, and discipline to continue on your journey.

It is time to enjoy the journey of self-fulfillment and learning. Tell yourself that you are disciplined enough to move forward, because the world is waiting for you. Unleash your greatness and live life to its fullest!

Monthly Newsletter Hit the Delete Button Part 4 April 2, 2012

“With a little perspective you can live a life of permanent purpose.” – Andy Andrews-

When you receive an e-mail that you don’t like, it is easy to just delete it – and hopefully you don’t even read it or give it another thought. But what do you do when the messages come from your brain, when the thought is telling you that you are not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough etc? Do you ever question that thought? Do you challenge that thought by asking “Is it true?”

Where do those thoughts come from? Whose voice are you listening to? Listening to wrong voices will contaminate your ‘software’. How would things be different if you were without that thought? It’s time to hit the delete button and reprogram your software because it has become infected. Turn off the negative recording and put in a new one.

In order to hit the delete button you may need an antidote to replace that negative thought. Here is an antidote: Daily affirmations. Fill your mind with positive materials and thoughts. By affirming your own self worth, you will learn to love yourself; and to appreciate yourself. Affirmations will create emotions that can change your belief system and help you know how incredible you really are.

There is a true story about a lady that was born to a mom out of wedlock. When she was young she saw her birth certificate and the little box in the corner was checked with the words “illegitimate”. She went through life with feelings of inferiority, that she was not good enough. It affected her personality and every aspect of her life. She never felt that she could do anything because she was “flawed”. It was so ingrained in her thinking that she was a mistake and that no one wanted her that it was holding her back. She finally realized that the evidence that she was here was evidence enough that she was here for a reason. She started to appreciate herself and recognize that she could add meaning to her life and those around her. She finally hit the delete button and erased the negative voices of her past and realized that no matter what her birth certificate says she was not a mistake and she did matter. Today she is happy, full of life and a joy to be around. She has blessed many lives with her love and caring personality.

So what is holding you back? What past message has stopped you from going forward and what messages do you need to delete?

Maybe you weren’t raised with the feelings of being honored, cherished and loved. Maybe feel you were just an accident. Many of us can relate to this, but the truth is in the evidence. The evidence doesn’t lie and seeing that you are here now is all the evidence you need to know that you have a destiny to fulfill that no one else can do. Hit the delete button on the past and know that your life matters; feel your power; and fulfill your purpose.

Once you hit the “delete button” you will come to realize that you can take responsibility for your own life. No one can make you feel like a victim. Once you embrace your own incredible power you can create the life you want and your thoughts and feelings of powerlessness will be a thing of the past.

Don’t be so fearful of others not accepting you that you become a people pleaser instead of the architect of your own life. Don’t say negative, demeaning things to yourself about yourself. Be your own best friend. Hit the delete button and everything changes. Change your script and change your life.

Realize that not everyone is going to embrace you and think you are the best thing on the planet. Choose the better way and embrace who you are. Give yourself permission to be proud of your own accomplishments and stop waiting for others to give you accolades.

Everything you do, every move you make, every action you take matters. There are generations yet unborn whose very lives will be changed and shaped by the things you think, and by the actions you take So you see, everything you think and do matters Love yourself. Love what you do. Make your difference. You have the power within you to change your future and the future of others.

I worked with the youth in my church for several years and recently I received a nice e-mail from one of the mothers of two of the girls I taught, who are both now in college. This is what she wrote: “I thank you for helping them to become who they are today. Your influence is phenomenal.”

That touched my heart on so many levels because I felt like I was the one that benefited the most from my association with them. Each of us matters, each of us can and do make a difference; so delete the negativity that is holding you back and make the difference that only you can make.

“Every single thing you do matters. You have been created as one of a kind. You have been created in order to make a difference. You have within you the power to change the world.” –Andy Andrews

“Don’t look back. You’re not going that way.” –author unknown

Since spring is a re-birth, a new beginning, it is time for all of us to remember how amazing, wonderful and powerful we are, and to live our life to the fullest.

Dr. Robert Anthony sent me the following message last week. I feel it’s so important that I want to share it with you:

“I’m always amused by the question, ‘What would you do if you knew you were going to die?’ Duh, yes, I know that the question refers to knowing the timing. But, timing aside, you do know you’re going to die sometime, so use that knowledge to really live in the meantime. How annoying to get to the end and feel like you never dared to be your true self, that you never lived loud and hearty, that you played it safe only to end up dead anyway. I said before that I thought ‘I can’t’ were the two most limiting words that we can say, but maybe ‘someday’ is right up there with them.”

It is time to “awaken” from our slumber and go after the things in life that are important to us. It’s time to enjoy and embrace who we are and love and appreciate those special people in our life that make life enjoyable and worth living for.

“Don’t wait for some magic gift. Share what you are, dare to be vulnerable, and you will find people who count you amount their deepest friends.” –author unknown

Weekly Insight Hit the Delete Button Part 3 March 19, 2012

“To love what you do and to feel that it matters, how could anything be more fun?” -Katharine Graham-

Since I have been on this journey of writing children’s books and finding an illustrator, graphic artist, and going through all the steps it takes to get books printed, the “experts” all seem to come out of nowhere.

Some people have wondered when and why I decided to write children’s books and why I choose to do it the way I am doing, because according to those self-styled experts, that is ‘not how you do it’. There have even been “friends” who do not want to talk to me since I started this journey, and some have implied that I don’t know what I am doing. Unbelievable? Yes, but when you get out of a “box” you have put yourself in, or others have put you in, you certainly find out who your real friends are.

So, what are the “experts” in your life telling you what you can and can’t do? Are you listening to the voice inside that inspires you and following your dream regardless of what the “experts” say? If not, it’s time to Delete the negative words of others.

Now, let me be perfectly clear – there are people who want to help and they truly are experts that can guide you on your journey. We need to let others help us reach our destiny, and be open and teachable to their advice. I have a great friend who works in Hollywood doing films and she has given me some wonderful advice and guidance. I am only talking about the “experts”, the negative people who don’t have any constructive solutions; those who are just being jealous, petty, and letting their own insecurities come out. Those are the people for whom you need to quickly hit the Delete button.

Here are some interesting facts: Did you know that Theodore Geisel loved to draw, so he went to school to become an artist. His teachers all told him that his drawings were too cartoonish, and too playful and that he would not be successful. So he quit school, but he never quit drawing. Ted began to pursue a career as a cartoonist. The Saturday Evening Post published some of his early pieces, but the bulk of his career was devoted to creating advertising campaigns for Standard Oil, which he did for 15 years.

He wrote children’s books and sent his books to 27 publishers, who all told him that they were not marketable and would never sell. The 28th publisher decided to take a chance on Theodore. He decided not to use his real name, and today we know him as the much loved Dr. Seuss. He has written and illustrated 44 children’s books and his books have been translated into more than 15 languages. He has sold more children’s books than anyone in history. More than 200 million copies have found their way into the homes and hearts of children around the world. If he had listened to the “experts” or had become discouraged we wouldn’t have these fun and amusing books today. So, what are the experts telling you?? What “expert” are you letting steal your dream?

You have what it takes, you have the talent, the wisdom, the strength and the dream to succeed in whatever endeavor you desire.

So, what are you made of? Are you going to give up when you hear negative comments or the “experts” telling you it can’t be done, or telling you are doing it all wrong? Or are you going to be true to your God-given talents just like Theodore Geisel and prove to yourself that you have what it takes. Don’t let the naysayers steal your dream! You need to hit the Delete button and follow your destiny. Re-program your software; stop playing the negative recordings over and over again. Don’t let the virus contaminate your life, and don’t let the so-called experts determine your future. Hit the “delete” button and realize your greatness. Your life will follow your thoughts. The world is in need of your enlightenment and your best life is waiting for you! Enjoy the ride!

Weekly Insight Hit the Delete Button – Part 2 March 12, 2012

We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far. -Swami Vivekananda -
We know that just like there are people who try to contaminate the software in our computers, there will be people that try to contaminate our thoughts with their negative attitude and discouraging words. Sometimes they are so clueless that they may not even be aware of it; other times they may very well be aware of what they are saying and are just “destroyers of the dream”. Sometimes “they” might even be “us”. Don’t let those negative words linger – just hit the “Delete” button.

I was recently telling some friends about the children’s books that I just had published. (www.TinaToothFairy.com). The husband was thrilled and excited because he too is writing books and is a person that sees not only the glass “half-full” but “full”, and is very positive and encouraging. He thought my illustrator did a fantastic job, loved how colorful and detailed the drawings are, and loved the message in the stories. His wife, however, is very insecure so her comments were not encouraging nor was she excited for me.

She said to me, “You know I want to write children’s books, and when I do, mine are going to be really amazing because I am going to have mine illustrated by (name withheld – who illustrated several books for a very famous actress/children’s book author). She went on to say that she just knew that she would get a big name publisher to take her books. I told her I was happy for her, and that by all means she needed to go ahead and write her books – “You go girl!”

I was initially disappointed by her comments, but the next thought that came into my head was a scene from the movie “Pride and Prejudice.” In this scene, Emma is almost forced to play the piano, even though she told the wealthy and domineering aunt – played by Judi Dench – that she is not very good at it. But the aunt insists that Emma play, so she does. When she is finished, the aunt, who does not play the piano at all, says that if she, the aunt, had learned to play the piano that she would be so much better than anyone else.

That scene is so ridiculous that you cannot help but laugh. When my friend made her comments to me, I thought of that scene and I did laugh, but only in my head of course. Instead of feeling bad and beating myself up over that encounter, I think of the scene from the movie, and that is how I hit the Delete button. My friend’s books may very well be awesome when and if she writes them, and I honestly hope that she does get the illustrator and publisher she is hoping for. Most of all I hope that she will find the courage and discipline to actually do it.

Realize that some people are just not going to be happy for you. Some people will not be in your corner. But it doesn’t matter when you know that you were born to succeed.

When someone says “you can’t” – make your response “of course I can”. You can achieve anything you set your mind on. Believe in yourself because you are good enough and talented enough.

I love what Rev. Michael Beckwith says: “God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called. So, if you have a desire (a calling) to share your wisdom on the pages of a book, or any other way, you ARE qualified. It is the passion, desire and your own transformational journey that will make a difference to others, and not an external standard of someone else’s idea of what it means to be an author / expert / light to the world!”

You cannot let someone else stop you from your greatness – just hit the Delete button when you have negative thoughts or someone says something negative to you. Don’t let negative thoughts or negative people keep you down and stop you from reaching your dreams. Don’t let negative words stop you and steal your joy. Do your daily affirmations and tell yourself that you have exactly what you need right now to be all that you can be. You are equipped, you are powerful, you are amazing, and you are beautiful.

Don’t let someone else decide what you put into your brain or what you will accomplish. Just hit the Delete button and get rid of those viruses.

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” –Willie Nelson-

Stay tuned for more next week.
